Injury and HealingIvo
E. Videnov CEO of World Wide Vision, a long time friend of both artists in
Japan, as well as official representative, producer, director and administrator
of DK in several countries around the world, has brought these artistic
expressions together in one book, based on his natural intuition, as well as
intimate knowledge of DK’s philosophy and McPeek’s poetic talent—mainly through
the concept and dynamics of injury and healing.
On
one hand McPeek’s poetry injures the page, and the reader cannot escape
unscathed. On the other, Hasegawa’s DK
moves in, blanketing the raw places, to heal the reader’s wounds. It is the yin and yang of the lifecycles that
we are all caught up in, where one image dies to give birth to the other and
for a moment they are all part of the whole, free of subjective judgment and
time constraints. Some of the poetry is
very controversial, raw, political, erotic, inter- and cross-cultural,
sensitive until it hurts, individual and private, and public, yet mass, all at
the same time. DK is seeing the reality,
choosing the right path, correcting and leading the disillusioned and those blinded
by materialism and youthful hedonism back to the healing power of nature and
ancient wisdom. The DK content is
carefully chosen and wedded with the poetry to bring the reader the excesses of
life, together with healing elements of spiritual enlightenment and structural
integrity. The reader should feel the
wrenching edge of the poetry, followed by the soothing, colourful salve that the
images provide. However, be prepared, roles
reverse at times, and the images too have sharp edges, and the poetry likewise
offers comfort and ethereal refuge from the stormy yin of the piercing colour in
places.
