What is Digital Kakejiku ?
Digital Kakejiku (DK) is a light installation created by the Japanese artist, Akira Hasegawa. With DK, Hasegawa expanded the idea of the Japanese hanging scroll tradition, Kakejiku, to encompass entire buildings, world heritage places, nature and space itself. DK lights up large areas of the building surface, rooms, ceilings and floors with random sequences of abstract-painting-like images. This abstract-patterns and colours are created by capturing cosmic noises and encoding them into digital data.

DK has been shown many times all over the world at world heritage places and international cultural, music, art and sport events. Some of the recent installations include but are not limited to: Scotiabankl Nuit Blanche in Toronto 2011, Tokyo Parliament Building 2010, Michael Lee-Chin's Crystal at The Royal Ontario Museum, McMichael's Museum Home of the Group of Seven, Bisha Hotel in Toronto, Salzburg Cathedral, Austria 2011, Nakagawa Canal 2012, etc.

About Akira Hasegawa

The Japanese artist, Akira Hasegawa, was born in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, in 1947. Since 1973, he has worked on over 4,000 films and television commercials, videos, cyber graphic designs and computer art projects as an artist, producer and director. For his work, he has received numerous award. He announced concept of DK in 1996.
My name is Akira Hasegawa. However, that is not so important because I do not know all of your names. The name of my art is the Digital Kakejiku project, or D-K.

That is not important either, because by its nature, D-K is neither exclusive nor final.
D-K is not mine. It is ours. It enriches us as human beings without differentiating between our names, ages, races and ways of thinking.
D-K transcends time and space.

Charity Campaign

Since Nuit Blanche 2011, WWVP has commited to a charity campaign geared towards helping Japanese children affected by the “東日本大震災” on March 11, 2011. We make target donations for long term mental therapy and stress relief through art and entertainment in the most affected areas. Our strategic partner, CPM Studio in Japan, is very active in this area until today.

We believe that mental healing is essential to restore the balance in the lives of the survivor's of any natural or man made disaster. We do intend to continue our charity and therapy work all over the world where needed.

Healing through meditation and DK

The International Research Center for Traditional Medicine, a division of the Toyama Prefecture International Health Complex: "A Pilot Study of Traditional Medical Healing Effects and Evaluation Methods on 'D-K': A Modern Art Vision", March, 2007. The instituteresearches traditional and holistic medicine and practices using a wide range of respected international scientific technology.

“The research shows that there are significant differences in the data received from measures taken during DK projection and from the controlled samples experiments of exposure to white light.During two sessions, one of white light exposure and one of projection of 30 minutes of DK, the oxygen metabolism of the brain’s outer surface of the frontal lobe as well as the muscular metabolism and oxygen intake of the trapezius muscle are clearly affected. Moreover, a statistically significant difference was clearly ascertained and measured in the concentration of saliva IgA (an index of stress factor and immunity function in the mouth), the serotonin and noradrenalin levels excreted in urine and in the electroencephalogram findings during excitement sensibility analysis.

The research data and experiments constitute a scientifically acceptable proof and clearly show that DK reduces uneasiness and betters the immune system of the human body as well as stimulates brain function and creativity. DK provides significant depth in the experience of altered state consciousness and gives good response no matter how artificial. Further research of the long term effects of DK on the human brain and body functions are recommended by changing the various conditions of the controlled experiments. This must be done not only for the benefit and future development of alternative treatments in the context of traditional medicine but also for the advancement of the contemporary neuroscience and modern medicine in general.”

That research has taken DK into school, hospitals, old people’s housing and was the cause of initiating projects with JAXTA and NASA to take it to the space station to relieve the astronauts from stress and other negative factors associated with the prolong stay in space. The therapeutic benefits of D-K Live come from real time viewing, which creates an opportunity for the creation of digital distribution channels, CD’s and DVD’s for: Bedtime Stress Relief & relaxation, Mental & Physical Therapy and the creation of a TV/cable channel “Spa for the Eyes”.
